Yummy!

Oh, my....

A little eye candy that came from Ruby Janes Retro Fabric, they had a
12 hour 1/2 off everything sale. Ummm, I really don't see how I could pass up 1/2 off! And yes, I bought more than I might have just to get the free shipping, but did I mention that it was ALL 1/2 OFF ?

So, yes, there's more.....
Now I need to go fold it all nice and pretty (after I fondle and drool over everything!) and then I will take some new photos that actually show off whats here! Happy me!

I love surprises!

Went to the post office today and this bunch of goodies was waiting for me.

My Moms the best! She found these old quilt magazines for me with some really cute stuff in it and sent along this fabric too. Can't believe that it's apples because I was already thinking that her new house should be apples instead of sunflowers like her kitchen in Arizona. Guess great minds really do think alike.

I'm pretty sure that she will need to have a plastic bag holder and some hot pads to match. Most likely she would like some placemats too.....hmmmmmm, so much sewing to be done.
Better go.....

Why does cleaning make such a mess?

Why is it that whenever I try to make my sewing room tidier it ends up just the opposite?

It all started with (finally!!!) getting my Little Gracie quilt frame set up, it took me about six months to get the staining project done and another six to look at the pieces before I got it done! Jeez. I realized just how many scraps I have and decided they should go into a string quilt; and that's how my sewing room now loo
ks like the rainbow fabric fairy hit me with a tornado of bits and pieces like these.

The very first few blocks I made I liked, then I placed about 10 together and didn't like it anymore. So, I did a little surfing and found some photos of ones I liked better that had a strip of black in the center to help gives your eyes a
rest and make a pattern. WAY BETTER!!!!!

And here is what it looks like now:

I was thinking that this would be my "ugly, I don't care" quilt, but I do like how it turned out and apparently so does my FIL. I've never heard him go on about how pretty a quilt was until he saw the sections laid out on my table, he even suggested adding a border! This is now "Jims' Quilt" and I need to hurry up and finish it for him. I think he'll be pretty surprised and happy that it's for him!

The sun is finally shining a little today over my house, I think I will go soak some of it up and then take a few more photos while I don't need the flash. Happy Day!!

Modern Hexie

Here is a more "modern" version of the same quilt block arrangement. It's okay, but I'm really just not in love with it which is why it still needs to get quilted and bound. Maybe if I finish it up I will like it better?
At the very worst, I can take it to outdoor concerts to sit on; and we have a lot of those events coming up! I'll keep you posted on those as they happen.
Need to go tackle some of that housework that piles up while I sew so that's all for now.

June ( !!! )

It's June already! Oh my, I have a lot of pictures to share, starting with this quilt. My Mom sent me some fat quarters for my birthday, although I loved the fabrics I knew my Mom would love even more to get them back made into something for her new house. Forgot to take a photo of the fabrics before I cut into them, but they screamed something "old fashioned" looking. I thought that the hexagons from Jaybird Quilts looked like they could become the perfect layout for what I had in mind........
I'm very pleased with how it turned out. And the label on the back adds (finishes?) just the right touch; and to make it even better the label pattern came from a book that my Mom sent me for my birthday too!

This quilt has been shipped already to Arnegard, North Dakota and is enjoying its new home. I'm pretty sure if I know my Mom, she's already taken it to "hamburgers in the park" and shown it to the whole town.
